Social Capital of Hafidzpreneur Students in Sustainable Sharia Economic Governance: A Maqāṣid al-Sharīʻah Approach to SDG 8 in Indonesia

Abstract
This study examines how the social capital of hafidzpreneur students—university students who integrate Qurʼan memorization (tahfidz) with entrepreneurial practice—contributes to sustainable Sharia economic governance in Indonesia, and how that contribution can be framed through Maqāṣid al-Sharīʻah to strengthen the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 8 on decent work and economic growth. The research applies a qualitative design using an integrative literature review and conceptual-descriptive analysis of reputable national and international publications, including six articles from Profetika: Jurnal Studi Islam. The conceptual synthesis is complemented by a supplementary content analysis of 324 Indonesian media items deductively coded for the four analytical pillars (social capital, the five maqāṣid, SDG 8, and sustainability). Data were analysed through thematic synthesis structured around the three classical dimensions of social capital—trust, networks, and shared norms—and the five higher objectives of the Shariʻah (protection of religion, life, intellect, lineage, and wealth). The findings indicate that hafidzpreneur students manifest a distinctive form of Islamic social capital in which spiritual discipline derived from tahfidz becomes a moral substrate for entrepreneurial trust, religiously bonded networks, and internalised ethical norms. These dimensions operate as governance mechanisms that lower transaction costs, enforce Sharia compliance, and reproduce ethical conduct, thereby aligning with maqāṣid-based protection of wealth (ḥifẓ al-māl), intellect (ḥifẓ al-ʻaql), and lineage (ḥifẓ al-nasl). A supplementary content analysis of public discourse corroborates the framework: preservation of wealth (ḥifẓ al-māl) is the dominant objective, appearing in 69% of items, and 31% of items jointly invoke maqāṣid and SDG 8 markers, while social capital operates largely as an implicit mechanism of collaboration and trust. The study proposes a Maqāṣid-based model in which social capital translates into decent work, productive employment, and inclusive growth consistent with SDG 8. The novelty lies in connecting the under-explored hafidzpreneur phenomenon with social-capital theory and maqāṣid governance, offering a value-based pathway for sustainable Sharia economic development in Indonesia.
